We want you back! If you are one of the millions of people who moved away from using public transportation over the past two years, but have been thinking of giving it a try again, we’ve got good news for you! Many of our public agency partners will be offering free rides on California Clean Air Day (Oct 5, 2022)!

From Sonoma County to Santa Cruz to Sacramento to the San Joaquin Valley to Greater Los Angeles, agencies are stepping up make their trains, busses and bike share programs free for a day.

“Air quality, climate change, and how we travel go hand in hand,” said Doran Barnes, Chief Executive Officer of Foothill Transit. “Public transit is already the greener choice for your commute. Offering free fares on Clean Air Day helps us tell that story to a wider audience, and get people on board, literally and symbolically.”

“Metro is proud to celebrate California Clean Air Day by encouraging everyone to take transit instead of driving with free rides on Metro train, bus, or bike share” said Stephanie Wiggins, CEO of LA Metro. “By going Metro, you can do your part to help us reduce tailpipe pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in our region. We hope everyone makes a plan to Go Metro on Clean Air Day!”

In Northern California, Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) General Manager/CEO Henry Li adds “Transportation is the single biggest source of air pollution in California. Our free ride promotion is a great way to reduce congestion and help clear our air.”

SacRT is also offering free transit for the entire week of California Clean Air Day.

In Sonoma County, hard hit by climate-change-fueled wildfires, Santa Rosa City Bus Transit Planner Yuri Koslen adds “Public transit is the greenest choice. Why not give it a try?”
